What date and time does practice for my sport begin?  Practices vary from team to team due to field schedules and weather. Practice can begin on 2/14 for spring teams. Please consult the list of winter coaches below and make contact well in advance of 2/14 if you have questions concerning practice.

What if my child currently plays a Winter Sport?  Your child will be given a tryout for the sport they are interested in after their winter sport is completed.  Contact the coach to talk with him/her about this process.

Why do I need a “yellow card” to tryout or practice?  To avoid lost paperwork and confusion, your child will need a yellow card (also known as a “ticket to practice”) before they are allowed to participate. If your student plays or played a Fall or Winter Sport, they still must get a new card for Spring Sports.  This system is managed by our Athletic Training staff and ensures all proper paperwork has been completed before your child joins a team. It also allows our coaches to coach and not be bogged down in paperwork. For yellow card questions, please email athletic trainers

What paperwork is required to receive a “Yellow” card? 2017-18 HS Athletic Participation Packet

When are pictures scheduled? Picture Day for Spring Sports is scheduled for February 21st.    To ensure our photo deadlines are met for our media guides and banners, our picture dates are set early in the seasons. Due to the early booking dates, makeup picture dates are NOT offered at the school and will need to be scheduled individually through our photographer at his studio. How do I order a Senior banner for my student-athlete? Senior Banners are sold through the CMHS Athletics Booster Club. For information, please contact or download the order form by going to Boosters Tab & clicking on Senior Banners.

What if we’ve already planned a vacation during our season? If you know you have a vacation coming up during your sports season, that information needs to be shared with your coach well in advance to avoid any miscommunication and misunderstandings.

Why do I have to attend an individual team meeting? The NCHSAA requires each coach to hold a preseason meeting with all parents. Your attendance is required. Our meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 8th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium.  At this meeting, CMHS Athletic Department specific information will be addressed. Once our general meeting is over, we will have a breakout for each team.

What if my child did not pass enough classes or missed too many days to participate?  Eligibility for NCHSAA competition is based on the student’s previous semester of coursework. Academically, a student must pass 3-of-4 classes to be eligible. For attendance, a student in Cabarrus County must not have missed more than 13 days of school the previous semester. Eligibility in those two areas will be determined once tryouts begin. A student who tries out for a team may later find out they are ineligible once grades and attendance are certified. To avoid this situation, if you feel your child may be in danger of either threshold, please contact immediately.

What are “team shops?”  In an effort to provide our parents, players and fans an opportunity to purchase higher-end, brand name Charger merchandise (Nike) at below-retail costs, we partner with BSN Sports to offer online options to make those purchases. Your coach will have this information available if your team is offering a team shop this season. Team Shops allow us to offer items which would otherwise not be cost-effective for our Athletic Boosters Club to keep on stock in our Spirit Wear. Your purchases through team shops allow our athletic program to buy our uniforms at discounted prices, keeping our Chargers looking good on the fields, courts,mats, pools, tracks and courses.
